Speaker: Dr. Ed Dover
Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Western Oregon University
The 2026 November mid-term elections are over with almost all the races called. Now, what is needed, is a wise man to tell us what this means to Oregonians in the future. Dr. Ed Dover, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Western Oregon University, is just that person.
For over a decade, Dr. Dover has enlightened and entertains members of the Salem City Club and the public with his observations about politics and elections and he will join us November 19 to continue our tradition.
A teacher, scholar, and longtime participant in American politics, Dover was raised in Wyoming, received a PhD in Political Science from the University of Colorado and has over forty years of teaching experience at five different colleges and universities in four states, including thirty years in Oregon.
He is the author of six books and numerous academic papers about American presidential elections. His activities have not been limited to academics as he has been a candidate for public office and has fulfilled many roles in numerous political campaigns, including campaign manager.
In addition, he served as the President of the Western Oregon University Federation of Teachers and chief union negotiator during several years of collective bargaining talks.
Currently, he is president of the Monmouth-Independence Rotary. His wife, Dr. Molly Mayhead, is a Professor Emerita of Communication Studies at Western Oregon University.
