As Veterans Day approaches, Salem City Club is honored to present this Veterans-focused program highlighting a new and innovative housing option for Veterans.
Andrew Holbert is the Executive Director and a Marine Corps veterans whose service in the Corps and in numerous civilian positions since his separation from the Corps uniquely qualifies him to lead this new mission.
Andrew will share the story of Courtney Place from dream to vision to the reality that opened its doors last April. It represents a collaboration with the YMCA and a dream of the late State Senator Peter Courtney. Andrew will provide some of the inside stories and challenges encountered along the way; and, how his own experiences in the Corps, as a student-veteran at Corban University, and in his work experience at Western Oregon University and his home state of Nevada working with Republican and Democrats on military, veteran, law enforcement, and first responder issues informed the philosophy of Courtney Place and the wraparound services it provides.
The philosophy of Courtney place provides the veterans a hand-up, not a handout, and fosters a culture of independence and dignity. Please join us honoring the service of all service members, veterans, and their families who serve, too.
