Salem City Club is fortunate to host the leadership of the Oregon House: the Speaker, Dan Rayfield and the House Republican Leader, Jeff Helfrich. We have asked them to share their expectations and hopes for the upcoming session as well as their understanding of what appears on the formal agenda at this point.
Representative Dan Rayfield (D), Speaker of the House of Representatives, represents House District 16 in the Corvallis area. He was educated locally, with an undergraduate degree from Western Oregon University and a Willamette University law degree. He credits the differing political views of his parents for his ability to find common ground among people with varying perspectives. He resides in Corvallis with his wife and young child.
Representative Jeff Helfrich (R), House Republican Leader, represents House District 52 in the Columbia Gorge, and currently resides with his wife and two young children in Hood River. He previously represented this district from 2017 to 2019, and has also served as a Cascade Locks City Councilor. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Desert Storm and Desert Shield, and as a sergeant with the Portland Police Bureau for 25 years.
