“As Election Day approaches, Oregon Historical Society Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk will share the fascinating stories of Presidential visits to Salem and to Oregon.  Who was the first sitting President to visit Oregon?  What President was snubbed by an Oregon Governor who forced him to wait for ten minutes in the pouring down rain at the Salem train station?  What President made a visit that the press was banned from reporting?  The answers to all these questions and more will be revealed in Kerry’s presentation.”

Kerry Tymchuk | Executive Director, Oregon Historical Society
  • Serves as the Executive Director of the Oregon Historical Society
  • A native of Reedsport and fifth generation Oregonian
  • Graduate of Willamette University (BA, History) and of Willamette University College of Law (JD)
  • Served as a Marion County Deputy District Attorney
  • Served as Director of Speechwriting to U.S. Secretary of Labor Elizabeth Dole and speechwriting and Legal Counsel to U.S. Senator Bob Dole
  • Acted as Oregon Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Gordon Smith
  • Co-authored with the Doles in the writing of four books as well as worked with four Oregon business icons — Gert Boyle (Columbia Sportswear), Harry Merlo (Louisiana-Pacific), Al Reser (Reser’s Fine Foods), and Ken Austin (dental equipment inventor) — in writing their autobiographies.
  • Became a four-time champion on the popular television game show “Jeopardy”
  • Recognized by Oregon Business Industry in 2018 as Oregon Statesman of the Year
  • Member, Willamette Board of Trustees
  • Chairman of the Board, Special Olympics Oregon
  • Member, Board of Directors Allen Trust Company
  • Resides in Beaverton with his wife, Becky, and their two children.
